Dance 6 Unit 1: Elements of Dance
Unit Overview: In this introductory dance unit, students will develop foundational dance etiquette and technical skills by exploring the Elements of Dance: Body, Action, Space, Time, and Energy. Starting from a place of zero prior knowledge, students will engage in interactive lessons that emphasize individual exploration and creativity. Each Element will be covered in depth, culminating in a collaborative dance project that incorporates all five Elements. This unit will empower students with a strong foundation in dance, enhancing their understanding of movement while fostering creativity and collaboration. By the end, students will not only be able to demonstrate basic dance skills but also appreciate the artistry behind dance as a form of expression. Students will be able to express their opinions about dance, using the Elements of Dance to support their views.

Dance 6 Unit 2: Choreographic Tools
In this unit, students will build on their understanding of the Elements of Dance by exploring basic choreographic tools. They will learn techniques such as mirroring, unison, canon, ABA, Rondo, and retrograde to enrich their choreography. Through guided practice and creative exercises, students will experiment with these tools to develop their own dance sequences, enhancing their ability to express ideas and emotions through movement. This unit will empower students to create more complex and cohesive dance pieces while deepening their appreciation for the art of choreography.
Dance 7 & 8: Moving with Purpose: Exploring Dance and Anatomy
In this unit, students will explore key anatomical principles and the functions of the body, focusing on bones, joints, and muscles. They will gain an understanding of how these components work together to facilitate movement in dance. By applying their knowledge of anatomy, students will create original dance pieces that reflect these principles, allowing them to connect the science of the body with the art of movement. This integration will deepen their appreciation for both anatomy and dance, enhancing their creative expression and technical skills.
